¿What is Acupoint?

How we got here

Located in Palma of Mallorca, Acupoint is a centre specialized in acupuncture and other alternative therapies, created with the purpose of bringing together Chinese culture and its medicine to the citizens of the Balearic Islands, so that they could benefit from its perks, and this way, improve their quality of life naturally without any kind of side effects.

My name is Si wen Chen Sun and I trained myself professionally at the University of Lleida, pursuing a degree in Biomedical Sciences, subsequently, at the Institut Químic de Sarrià I graduated with a Master’s degree in Bioengineering. After these six years of being in constant contact with the world of basic sciences, I realized that I wished to help people in a more direct manner, rather than sitting behind a laboratory desk.

I have always felt and I am still feeling a special interest towards Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). This interest, added with my eagerness to help people, has motivated me to change the course of my work life by studying for a Master’s degree in Chinese Traditional Medicine at ISMET. I traveled to my home country, China, where I studied for a year in various hospitals at the charming city of Hang Zhou, where I performed TCM practices.

With the creation of the center Acupoint my desire is to help and make known all the benefits that can be gained from Traditional Chinese Medicine, by offering a personalized and adequate treatment according to the circumstances of each and every patient.

I am here for whatever kind of concern, assistance or query that you may have or need about Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an acupuncture session consist of?

A session consists of acupuncture followed by other alternative therapies such as cupping, moxibustion, electroacupuncture, and others, according to the needs of every patient.

How long does a session last?

A session takes between

45min. – 1h. Generally, the first one takes longer since an exhaustive examination of the patient is done.

Is acupuncture painful?

Acupuncture does not have to be painful, it all depends on the zone of insertion of the needle. Normally the extremities, hands, and feet, are the most sensitive areas.

How many sessions would I need to have?

Sensitivity towards acupuncture differs from person to person. However, it is mostly recommended to have a minimum of 3 sessions so that you can have a substantial effect.

When will I feel its effects?

The effect of acupuncture is accumulative.

That means that the effect of the first treatment lasts around one or two days, then the second and third sessions, produce a much larger effect that will continue to increase and become more lasting with each one.

The shorter the period of time between the sessions, the faster the effect will come. It is recommended to have a session per week at the very least. In severe pathologies, we recommend having two per week.

What should I be feeling once I have the needles in?

For the acupuncture to be effective, you must feel swelling, heaviness or paresthesia at the place of insertion but never pain.

Does it have any side effects?

No, acupuncture is considered as one of the most secure therapies, as it does not cause any type of side effect. Nerveless, you must have in mind that the insertion of the acupuncture needle can land unintentionally on a capillary or subjacent vein, causing the appearance of bruising that will disappear in 2, 3 days.

I suffer from fibromyalgia and I am being treated at Si wen’s centre. I’ve felt notable improvement ever since the first session. I’ve had various continuous sessions and I am presently much better. I had previously turned to all kinds of conventional treatments (pills, injections, serums, etc.), various specialists, both private and from social welfare, but without great results. After being treated with acupuncture and cupping I’ve managed to sleep better and most of my pains seem to have disappeared. For us (people suffering from fibromyalgia), it’s something that can be highly invalidating. So, I recommend you this therapy, specially to those who suffer from many pains or aches.
